Marriage
Getting Married in the Catholic Church
We aim to ensure all couples have every opportunity to create a marriage that echoes the love that God has for us all: a happy, healthy, holy marriage, and a covenant that is truly grounded in the Lord. The following steps are your starting point to prepare for your marriage.
1. Schedule an introductory meeting with the parish priest or deacon at least six months before your desired wedding date. The following documents are required at this meeting:
- Recent Baptism Certificate for the groom and the bride within six months to your wedding date
- Recent Confirmation Certificate for the groom and the bride
- Marriage Certificate if previously married
- Divorce Decree if previously divorced
- Marriage Certificate and Death Certificate if widowed
2. Schedule an introductory meeting with our parish priest at least six months before your desired wedding date.
3. Schedule a meeting for your witnesses with our parish.
4. Set your wedding date and work with your parish to complete a prenuptial file.
5. Complete a premarital evaluation and discuss the results together.
6. Register for and attend a PreCana class to learn about the sacrament of marriage.
7. Follow up with your priest or deacon to discuss your questionnaire results, finalize ceremony details and complete necessary paperwork.
8. Purchase a marriage license at least one, but no more than 60 days before your ceremony.
9. Celebrate your wedding day with family and friends as you receive the Sacrament of Matrimony.
